The Honorable Chief Minsiter of Gujarat,
Gandhinagar
Respected Sir,
subject: Investigation of Banking fraud in GTB
PLEASE ACCEPT MY BELATED MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY. I ONLY LEARNT WHEN I WATCHED TV COVERAGE YESTERDAY NIGHT SHOWING YOUR MOTHER, YOUR RESIDENCE, THE POND, THE STATION AND YOUR STRUGGLE AND DETERMINATION TO MAKE IT HAPPEN SINGLE HANDEDLY OUT OF SHEER CONVICTION AND COURAGE AND ATMAWISHWAS AND BY DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM SWAMI VIVEKANANDA.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU TO KEEP UP INDOMITABLE FIGHTING SPIRIT IN YOU AGAINST ALL ODDS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GUJARAT.
During your personal address in the current show at ACMA you voiced concern of humiliation to Gujarat and you communicated very strongly during the public address that you are going to step up from October 2nd till October 31st restore pride and Honour of Gujarat and you wanted extensive and committed cooperation from the citizens of Gujarat.
When I heard you yesterday for the first time face to face , it was for the first time I realised that you were a much more committed person for cause of people in Gujarat and you want to wake up and rekindle the real Khumari – in Gujaratis that has got extinguished because the Gujaratis by and large have led a life of comfort and have not gone through the struggles of life and therefore there is missing of rage in them and you having understood Swami Vivekananda would like to rekindle the spirit of Khumari.
You have specifically called for extensive support from the Gujarat citizens to unite so as to restore pride and honour of public in Gujarat State. Such movement requires major issues to mobilise such mass support. In this connection , let me reiterate , one of the issues which can galvnaise participation from the people of Gujarat for a just cause.
You may have recently read news item that GTB-OBC amalgamation has been approved by the Government in a cabinet meeting without even discussing the issues in the Parliament. The article is reproduced here as under.

Sept. 17. (PTI): The Government today formally approved the merger of troubled private sector Global Trust Bank with state-owned Oriental Bank of Commerce.
The post-facto approval was given by the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here.
"The amalgamation is in the interest of depositors of GTB and for retaining the trust of the public in the banking industry," Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, told reporters after the meeting.
"The financial position of GTB had become weak. It had a negative networth. The Reserve Bank had come to a conclusion that it would not be possible for GTB to meet depositors liabilities," he said justifying the merger of the Hyderabad-based bank with OBC.
Such development is outrageous and it is like trying to seal a live volcano so that it does not erupt and devastate the entire country in order to save the skin of Reserve Bank of India, the Government of India and the management of GTB . Saving the depositors is just an excuse so as to prevent the trust in Reserve Bank of India from faultering. This is another way to suffocate and strangulate the people, the way it happened in Godhrakand.
It is best to strike back when the iron is hot on the issue of GTB and orphan- treatment given to the Gujarati depositors vis a vis GTB depositors. My particular story on GTB banking fraud furnished to Navrangpura Police station and its exposure provides right and effective platform and a cause to mobilise support from people of Gujarat. I hope you call details from the Police station.
All I need is your active support so as to restore the dignity of my family as well as rights of my family and in return I would like to reciprocate the same by spearheading a cause of depositors of Gujarat in cooperative banks of Gujarat meet same respect as GTB depositors while punishing and exposing the officials of GTB and alternative ways and means are found whereby OBC merger is not taxed to public at large for no fault of theirs.
I sincerely wish that you give a sincere and deep thought expeditiously as details need to be worked out from October 2nd to mobilise support of common people of Gujarat. Perhaps Dandi Kunch is a way to begin with. GTB-OBC merger is the right issue which MAY be CAPITAISED IMMEDIATELY .
I LOOK FORWARD FOR A MEETING WITH YOU AT A PUBLIC ADDRESS. JUST LET ME KNOW IF ONE IS BEING ADDRESSED IN AHMEDABAD BY YOU IN NEAR FUTURE.
I sincerely hope that your thoughts and feelings translate into material action in the form of people from Gujarat roaring like lions. Sooner it is done the better it is.
Sir, I hope to receive your reply at an early date as time is too short.
Thanking you.
Yours faithfully,
Pankaj S Mody
